Pedro Mzileni

Pedro Mzileni, originally from Zwelitsha, King Williams Town in the Eastern Cape, is a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and a Research Assistant in the Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation (CriSHET) at Nelson Mandela University. He is the former SRC President (2017) at Nelson Mandela University. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Perspective Online journal, a writing platform that formalises students’ socio-political sensibilities of higher education’s transformative, decolonial, and Africanisation efforts. He completed his BA (2016), BA Hons (2017), and MA (2019) at the Nelson Mandela University. He is currently enrolled for his PhD in Urban Sociology focusing on studentification and higher education transformation. He’s published in the Journal for Publication Administration (2018), South African Review of Sociology (2019), and has eight other forthcoming scholarly outputs for 2020 in national and international accredited journals and books chapters. His research focus is on four areas: critical studies in higher education transformation; youth urbanisation, studentification, and urban citizenship; social movements, conscientisation, protests and informal education; Xhosa histories, intellectual heritages, philosophical historiography and cultural modernity.
