Prof Michael Okyerefo
Visiting Professor

Michael P.K. Okyerefo is a Cultural Sociologist & a Sociologist of Religion with keen interests in alternative epistemologies, a growing interest he has garnered through teaching graduate students African Social Thought. While a sociologist by training, he also applies anthropological skills with an emphasis on fieldwork in his research, as these are skills he refined during a fully paid Fellowship on Religion and Public Culture at the University of Cambridge.

An Associate Professor, Michael Okyerefo is a graduate of the University of Ghana, University of Vienna and the University of Cambridge. He is currently Dean, School of Arts, University of Ghana; Visiting Professor, Chair for Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation, Nelson Mandela University, South Africa; External Research Fellow at the Global African Diaspora Studies (GADS), Institut für Afrikawissenschaften, University of Vienna; and a member of The New Global (De)Centre that seeks to produce, disseminate and make knowledge inclusive. He has published one book, several book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals.
