André Keet holds the research chair in Critical Studies in Higher Education Transformation at Nelson Mandela University and is a Visiting Professor at the Centre for Race, Education and Decoloniality, Carnegie School of Education at Leeds Beckett University, UK.

André maintains his links to the human rights structures of the United Nations and the African Union in addition to his work linked to ministerial appointments, state agencies and organs, civil society organisations and social movements. André’s first professorial appointment was as an adjunct‐professor at the University of Pretoria in 2009; followed by appointments at the University of Fort Hare in 2010 and the University of the Free State (UFS) in 2011, as the Director of the Institute for Reconciliation and Social Justice and advisor to the Rectorate. André serves on various structures in the human rights and higher education sectors including as Chairperson of the Ministerial Oversight Committee on Higher Education Transformation in South Africa and as member of the Council on Higher Education.

His research and postgraduate supervision focus on four areas: critical studies in higher education transformation; social justice, social cohesion and reconciliation; human rights, democracy and citizenship education; and public participation, critical citizenship and democracy development.
