We would like to invite you to Mandela University's Council Seminar Series - Seminar One:
The Political Economy of South African Higher Education

Invitation

13 June 2024 | 16h00-18h00 | Online

The University Council is mindful that its governance role is profoundly influenced by the broader factors that impact higher education, and this has consistently been reflected in council deliberations.

Council has, therefore, decided to initiate a seminar series – open to all – that aims to engage the contradictions, contestations and debates that constitute the ‘current moment’ of the university and post-school sector. The series thus focuses on the political, economic, social, cultural, and technological forces that are shaping the sector; the changes in the organisation, purpose and rationale of our institutions; the autonomy, legitimacy, and public accountability of the university; the role of higher education in development and the new world of work; corruption and maladministration; the funding of universities; and social justice work pursued institutionally.

The first in this series engages with the political economy of higher education within our national context. Please consult the attached invitation for more information.

Registration for Zoom is available here. Please register ahead of time to assist the organising team with managing the platform.
